On The Road Again

Our travels never seem to stop. I'm coming to you today from Charleston, South Carolina... Isle of Palms to be precise. This trip is a 50th Anniversary present to Beth's parents.

Buffy, her parents and I left Peoria on Wednesday and and stayed overnight in Lexington, KY. For the drive we rented a Kia mini van. So at least we're a little more comfortable. The pigeons attacked our van on the night in Lexington. The next morning, we found it covered in bird shit all over the windshield and hood. I guess that's why no one was parked in the space closest to the hotel entrance.

We arrived at our rental house last night. To get here, we had to cross a couple of long and high bridges spanning over the Inter coastal. Buffy and her mom were a little nervous in doing this. To make matters worse, it was rainy and very breezy to make things look a little more ominous.

After dinner at the Acme Cantina, we headed to the Charleston International Airport to pick up Beth's sister Kerri. Yes, she had the smarts to fly down here, though her flight was delayed about 30 minutes. This "international" airport looked dead. No stores or restaurants or bars were open.

On the way back to the house, we were going to return to the Acme Cantina for drinks and so Kerri could get something to eat. It was going on 11pm by now and Acme was closing up. We all then climbed back into the Kia, under the pouring rain (we had a small, mini hurricane going on... at least that's what it looked like on the weather map) and headed across the "scary" bridge again, only to find that Chili's, TGIFridays and Burger King were all closed. I don't know what the deal is. They apparently shut things down early around here. Banker hours if you ask me. We finally stopped at a grocery store and just picked up some beer and snacks.

Today, everyone opted to go into Charleston to shop. That didn't sound too exciting to me, so I stayed at the rental house to sleep in, make eggs and sausage, monitor the Congressional Bailout situation, go to the beach and anything else that might entertain me. I'm sorry, but I cannot look at the same crap at different stores all day long. I would love to have a guitar on this trip though. Maybe I should look up a Guitar Center around here.

Approximately 7pm tonight, Beth's other sister, Pam and her husband Bill are expected to arrive. The party will then be complete! I don't know what we're doing tomorrow. On Sunday we are scheduled to take a boat excursion on the Atlantic Ocean. And at some point, I want to see the USS Yorktown and some Civil War monuments/sites.
